Free Donut Alert! At The Tuscan Gun

Mark your calendars now, folks, because June 5th National Doughnut Day. And I have the perfect idea for how ya’ll should celebrate this momentous holiday. Check out The Tuscan Gun, a brand new Brooklyn cafe run by Gabriele Corcos –star of the Cooking Channel’s Extra Virgin –and his wife, actress Debi Mazar.

If you happen to stumble into the cafe (199 Windsor Place, Brooklyn) on June 5th between the hours of 9:30am and 12:30pm, you’ll snag yourself a free homemade chocolate-coffee doughnut made with Lavazza coffee –Free!!

Lavazza Coffee Doughnut Bites

And in case you can’t make it to the The Tuscan Gun, or you do try them and decide you must have more of them all the time, check out the recipe below to learn how to make your own!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup freshly brewed Lavazza espresso
  • 2 tbsp butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup sugar, plus extra for coating
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. In another bowl, melt the butter in the hot espresso.
  3. Add the sugar to the espresso mixture and stir to combine; then add the egg and milk and whisk until all ingredients are combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and combine to form batter.
  5. In a medium saucepan, preheat the oil to 350°.
  6. Using a small cookie scoop, scoop small mounds of batter into the hot oil.
  7. Cook for about four minutes, flipping often with a slotted spoon, until the outsides are deep golden brown.
  8. Transfer the donut bites to a plate lined with paper towels. Allow them to drain for three minutes.
  9. Roll the donut bites in sugar.
  10. Serve warm.
