How to Steam an Artichoke

Don’t choke when it comes to cooking an artichoke. Here are some really simple ways to get it done. This will help you make these without being intimidated.

Steam Stovetop

Wash your artichoke

Cut off the end

Cut off about 1 1/2 inches off the top

Remove any leaves from the outer part that look discolored

Fill a pot with a lid with about 2 inches of water in the bottom and place your artichoke in and cover and let steam until tender. You can add lemon or bay leaf to the water this will give your artichoke wonderful flavor. The leaves should come out easily. About 20-35 minutes depending on the size of your artichoke.

You can scrape the tender part of the leaves with your teeth and dip in drawn butter or an aioli

To Microwave

Wash

Cut about 1 1/2 inches off the top of the artichoke

Wrap in plastic wrap

Microwave on high for about 7-8 minutes or until tender
