How to Make Hot Buttered Rum (Video)

You’re cold. It’s winter and you need a soothe souling, (ahem, soul soothing cocktail) sorry we’ve already had one of these to drink. This hot buttered rum is so delicious and easy to make and you will feel warm and toasty and get you in the holiday “spirit”. This recipe makes about 4 servings so you can invite friends over and share this awesome winter cocktail.

What You Need

  • 1 Stick of room temperature butter (unsalted)
  • Dark spiced rum (about 2/3 of a cup. more or less if you want)
  • 2/3 of a cup of light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 of a teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 of a teaspoon of ground cloves (careful with this it has a very strong flavor)
  • about 2 cups of boiling water

How to Make a Hot Buttered Rum

1. Mix together your butter and your sugar in a bowl.

2. Add all of your spices and rum to the bowl.

3. Top with boiling water and stir till butter melts.

4. Ladle into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick or orange zest!

Yum! Rum!

    Take note: in the video she says 2 cups of hot water, but the written instructions say 4. Two cups makes more sense to me, 4 seems like it would be terribly watered down.
