Video: How to Make Crème Brûlée

Need a simple, yet impressive dessert to bring to your next holiday party? Our very own Davina Thomasula is showing us how to master the crème brûlée using four simple ingredients. Crème brûlée is a rich, custardy dessert also known as crema catalana, burnt cream, or Trinity cream. This holiday favorite is sure to be the hit of any party, not to mention one of my personal favorites.  It’s so popular, England, France and Spain all claim to be its inventor! Sure this dreamy custard may look a little intimidating, but perfecting this dessert is easy by following the video below!

Ingredients

  • Heavy Cream
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract

Steps

  1. Scald heavy cream with a stand mixer and make sure it isn’t boiling bubbles on the outside
  2. Add eggs and sugar
  3. Put on low speed and combine eggs and sugar, avoid scrambling too much
  4. Add small amount heavy cream slowly while the eggs and sugar are still mixing
  5. Temper the eggs, and continue to bring up the egg temperature slowly
  6. Add vanilla extract, about 1 tablespoon
  7. Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  8. Divide mixture in ramekins
  9. Put the ramekins in a pan and surround with heated water
  10. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes
  11. Put in fridge and let set for 3 hours
  12. Take out the ramekins and sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar across the top of each
  13. Brûlée by blowtorching the top until it hardens
