Looking for a bar in a great location, with a chill atmosphere, and extensive list of reasonably priced and awesome drinks? (Aren’t we all.) Save yourself some trouble, and head on over to Williamsburg to check out The Gibson.

Located on Bedford Avenue, The Gibson is on a lively block with bars, awesome food trucks serving up some of the spiciest tacos this side of anywhere, and clans of tipsy friends having a smashing good time. The Gibson itself is huge, with pub-type wooden tables, a fireplace, and exposed brick. One end of the space is taken up with a few big projector screens, so never fear sports fans. It’s a great place to come watch a Sunday game, especially if you’re looking for something a bit nicer than your typical sports bar. They also occasionally have food catered from various wing and BBQ joints –yes, please. And in warm weather, there’s even more seating out back on the patio.

The Gibson has been hailed as one of the best whiskey bars in Brooklyn, and it’s easy to see why. With over 100 different labels, it’s a whiskey-lover’s dream. However, though it’s always good times aboard the whiskey train, that’s certainly not the only virtue of this place. They also have a great selection of gins and tequilas –with over 20 varieties of each. Naturally with all these great spirits, their cocktail list is great as well. They have the traditional –including the namesake, Gibson –as well as original offerings. They also have seasonal cocktails –try the Mexican Hot Chocolate (peligroso cinnamon tequila and hot chocolate) to take the chill of the first cold, wet days of spring. On the beer front, they have a great selection of craft beers that’s constantly rotating –in fact, when a tap runs out, chances are they’ll replace it with something different, so you’re always guaranteed some new choices.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. While cozied up to the big ‘ol wooden bar, I learned about some new whiskeys I’d never tried before, and had an amazing gin cocktail whipped up for me by bartender Paul –Bar Hill Gin, honey syrup and lemon juice, totally simple and amazing. He also introduced me to some cherry bitters I’d never tried before, and included them in a whiskey cocktail that was equally as impressive as the gin one. And as far as beer goes, if you have yet to try the Blood Orange Pale Ale from Great South Bay Brewery in South Bay, NY, then run, don’t walk to the Gibson and get some while it’s still in the rotation. Holy Pale Ale, Batman! That beer is good.

Whether your party is looking for beer and the game, a hard-to-find whiskey, fancy cocktails, or all of the above, The Gibson is sure to deliver. And to top it all off, the prices are good, the people are great, and the atmosphere is spot on. What more could a bar do, really?
