How to Make Sausage Bread (with Chef Michele Ragussis)

We are excited to introduce our celebrity guest chef, Michele Ragussis from the Next Food Network Star, who will be showing us an amazing recipe! Sausage bread is a simple crowd pleasing appetizer and Michele walks us through each step so you can recreate this delicious dish at home for your guests. Be the hit of your next party!


1 white onion (diced)

2 cups chopped tomatoes

4 cups fresh spinach

1/4 cup minced flat leaf italian parsley

1 can black olives

1/2 cup parmesan cheese

2 cloves minced garlic

1lb sweet italian sausage

2-4 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 cup flour (for rolling out dough only)

1 pizza dough

How to Make

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a saucepan add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and saute’ your onions and garlic about 2-3 minutes

Break up and add in your sausage and wash hands

Let sausage cook about 3 minutes and then add tomatoes, olives and spinach

After your spinach has cooked down and sausage is cooked through remove from heat

On a floured surface roll out your dough

Cover your dough with parsley and parmesan cheese (you can use mozzarella, pecorino or other cheeses as well)

Strain your sausage mix and push out all the liquid and refidgerate for 10 minutes until mixture has cooled

Scoop your mixture onto your dough and roll and continue with each layer (see video)

Oil your pan so your bread doesn’t stick and poke holes in the top of your bread and brush surface with olive oil

Cook 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Slice and serve!
