This is for all the tea drinkers out there. We’ve stumbled upon a quaint little tea shop in Soho that is always buzzing. The front of the space is an open shop and tasting room with loose leaf tea from floor to ceiling. If you venture into the back of the shop, there is a little tea cafe’, where you can sit and enjoy more tea and some really awesome “tea treats”. There are only a few small tables and a bar with about 5 seats so it’s not always easy to score a spot. If you do score a table, they will give you a menu with about 200 different types of teas from all over the world. The menu is somewhat overwhelming, but the staff is knowledgable and will help you figure out what you want.
While you are sipping on your tea, you can order some tea inspired delectable snacks, such as mini scones that come with strawberry jam and a whipped cream butter (damn good). If you’re not a scone person, you can grab a trio of ice cream in mini cones, that come in flavors such as chai, Earl Grey, and matcha. What the hell is matcha you ask? Well, if you’re not an avid tea drinker you probably wouldn’t know. Matcha is a finely milled or fine powder high quality green tea. The Japanese Tea Ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha. Nowadays, they also use it for flavoring and dying foods such as mochi and soba noodles. Regardless though, the matcha latte was pretty damn awesome.
If you’re shopping around Soho this place is worth the stop for a hot or iced tea, or even an Earl Grey ice cream float (it’s tea-riffic). Even if you just want to grab some loose leaf tea to take home and brew yourself, you have a huge variety to choose from. The teas are reasonably priced (it depends on the type and amount) and they even offer a 10 percent student discount. Worth the stop!
