The Frozen Yogurt Trend Appears to Have Run Its Course

Just a few years ago frozen yogurt was the coolest thing since sliced bread, with Pinkberrys, Yogurtlands, and other similarly named fro-yo joints spreading like wildfire. However, recently New York has seen a number of these outposts closing up shop –and right in time for summer, too… that can’t be a good sign.

Among the casualties are the Yogurtland and Yogurberry in Park Slope, a handlful of 16 Handles, and four (count ’em, four) Pinkberry locations, including the popular-once-upon-a-time Dumbo branch. Just like many food fads before it, self-serve, topping happy fro-yo outposts seem to have fallen out of favor. And, depending on your proclivity for frozen treats, this may or may not be bad news.

What are your thoughts, folks? Sad to see the yogurt chains going the way of the dinosaur? (Personally, I’m waiting for the death of all these silly rice pudding outlets –rice pudding, you guys? Seriously?) But for those of you sad to see the decline of fro-yo, you best hurry out to your closest shop and give them some of your business.
