A delivery of 268 kilos of frozen cocaine-stuffed crustaceans arrived at the Red Hook Terminal from Guyana on Monday. Talk about a ‘seafood special’.
The street value of these shrimps was estimated at over $12 million.
A drug-sniffing dog tipped off the Feds to the illicit contents in the shipping container that had been delivered to “Randolph Fraser” at a Brooklyn warehouse. The alias, according to an employee, belonged to Heeralall Sukdeo who was spotted by agents “together with others… organizing and supervising the unloading” of the shipment, states the complaint issued on Wednesday in Brooklyn Federal Court.
Sukdeo, the 59-year-old owner of Sukdeo Sons Fishing, a Queens-based shipping company, was arrested. Though, US Homeland Security Special Agent Ryan Varrone said, “Sukdeo stated that he was present only in the vicinity of the truck containing the target shipment because he was curious about its contents.”
The shrimp shipment had apparently cleared customs on Monday, June 15th, though this fishy situation couldn’t be put past the keen senses of a well-bred Brooklyn canine.
Sukdeo’s lawyer told the New York Daily News that he believes the facts will reveal a huge mistake — that his client did not order any shrimp coketail.
