How to Baste an Egg (Video)

This is an unconventional egg cooking method that actually can add so much flavor to your eggs. Basting an egg is simply adding a liquid to your pan and covering and letting the flavored liquid or fat flavor your eggs. This technique also takes out the hassle of trying to flip over your eggs and breaking the yolks, it’s really easy. We love this method and it’s quite the flavor booster. Go get basted!

What You Need

  • Eggs
  • Non-stick pan with a tight-fitting lid
  • Some basting liquid (water, chicken stock, broth etc)
  • A fat (butter, oil, etc.)

How to Make

  1. Heat your pan over moderate heat.
  2. Add your fat (oil, butter, etc.). Just enough to coat the bottom of the pan.
  3. Crack your eggs into the pan and let cook until the bottom of the eggs are solid.
  4. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of your basting liquid.
  5. Put the lid on. Be sure you put the lid on right away because adding liquid to hot oil will splatter.
  6. Let your eggs baste until desired doneness or until the white is set. About 2-3 minutes for a runny yolk.
  7. Drain off some of the excess liquid and serve your delicious eggs!
