7 Best Margarita Recipes for Summer

The Margarita is undeniably one of our favorite go-to summer thirst quenchers. We usually start drinking them around May 5th (or as they say in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo) and we stop around May 4th, the following year. We thought we’d share with you, not just one margarita recipe, but 7 fun margarita recipes to add some variety to your tequila intake.

Once upon a time in Mexico…. and it’s about here where the real origin story of the margarita gets muddled. There is a Mexican named Carlos who goes by “Danny”, a Ziegfeld dancer allergic to alcohol, a Dallas socialite, (actually named Margarita) who had a vacation home in Acapulco, a showgirl, and then some guy named Jose Cuervo (have you heard of him)? I wish all of these characters were in the same story, it would definitely be a Bestselling Summer Beach book, but alas, no one knows for sure where the first margarita recipe actually came from. The above cast of characters all claim to have played a part in the margaritas history, but be honest, do we really care? Let’s just get down to the business at hand. Drinking them!

The Classic

However, for our take on the classic, we eliminate the orange liqueur, but don’t worry, we still promise a good margarita recipe. Don’t fret, your beloved Cointreau will make an appearance or two in the following six other recipes, so read on and drink up!

Fireside Margarita

This margarita, from Dan Lerner, who’s palate is on fire, is a must-have to accompany the smoky flavors of anything hot off the grill from your backyard BBQ. This Fireside Margarita can also cool you down as you turn up the heat on a summer eve sitting in front of a campfire. Don’t be afraid of the Scotch, we’ve tested this four and five and six times…. It’s a winner! If you want to ‘mez’ around, try replacing the Scotch with a Mezcal for an entirely different layer of smokiness.
